Throughout the history of cultivation, farming has been the symbol of craft and art. Once upon a time when small farms and rural communities prospered, there was never a use for the word “organic”.

But yesterday’s small farm is today’s behemoth corporation with their bizarre combination of unnatural seed and chemical defoliants. Modern farming and its relentless expansion is hopelessly hostage to bio-technology and it’s seed. And the pharmacy owns the seed.

Meanwhile, we scramble to protect what is beneficial while we watch them weaken, as nuisance organisms grow stronger and Mother Nature fights to adapt.

It’s hard to believe the small farmer artist can exist in this space, but we do. As long as appreciation and respect for Earth flourishes, so goes the resurgence of the small farmer artist.
